Higgins Lake Engagement

Carolyn and Max’s engagement session on Higgins Lake in Northern Michigan felt like something out of a summer dream. Their evening unfolded with a soft and romantic energy that only a northern Michigan sunset can provide. One of my favorite details from their session was their decision to incorporate their family’s boat. I absolutely love when couples bring sentimental elements into their engagement sessions. Whether it’s a meaningful location, a shared hobby, or something that has been part of their story for years, these personal touches make all the difference. It allows the session to feel, not just beautiful, but deeply personal. As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, Higgins Lake transformed into a canvas of warm gold and soft tones. The gentle movement of the water, the quiet hum of summer, and the glow surrounding Carolyn and Max created such an effortless romance. There’s something magical about photographing during a warm summer evening at sunset.

Sunset sessions are especially incredible for photography because they provide soft, even lighting that flatters one’s features. The golden hour glow wraps around you in the most natural way. No harsh shadows, just luminous, dreamy light. It’s truly one of my favorite times of day to create portraits.Carolyn and Max’s session was the perfect blend of romance, nostalgia, and elegance. A reminder that the most meaningful photos often come from the places and moments that already hold your heart.
